Newsletter Reflection

Sending a student home with a parent/guardian letter about what's going on in the classroom may seem like a simple task, but it goes a long way. The importance of making a connection between home and the classroom is crucial. It develops not only a relationship between the parents and the educator, but between the parents and the student. Parents/guardians that feel comfortable talking to the educator will be more likely to frequently check-in on the academic standings of their student. The building of trust will give the parents faith in the educator and make their mind feel more at rest knowing they are sending their students on the right track towards a beneficial education. A newsletter will also let the parents know exactly what their student should be studying and will allow them to get more involved in the comprehension process. Whether the parents chooses to bring up the content area at the dinner table or sit down with their student at night to help with homework, the newsletter will keep them updated and aware of what their student needs to know. This extra discussion of the content will help reinforce it with the student and can possibly create a new appreciation or idea on the selection being covered.
